Left to right:

1. May 1981 - My picture when I graduated from college at NMSU with a degree in electrical engineering and moved to Montrose to work at DMEA.

2. June 1981 - When I had my first child Sara (a month after I started work in Montrose ....my mom was happy I cut my hair).

3. 1987 - CU Boulder graduation where I earned my Masters in Engineering while at DMEA (and yes, before the internet)

4. My wife Brenda and I

5. 2022 - My family on a recent vacation to Chicago after I retired from DMEA in 2018 (L-R daughter Sara, Son in Law Dan, Son Mark, Steve, wife Brenda)

6. Now - I am fortunate to work as the Director of the Montrose campus of Colorado Mesa University and CMU Tech.

7. May 2023 - Steve and Brenda at Jimmy Buffett's last public concert - San Diego, Ca.

I am looking to continue at DMEA as your representative as a board member in District 2.

I'm proud to represent you as a director for DMEA, our local electric cooperative. I'm deeply committed to ensuring reliable, sustainable and affordable energy for our community.

With extensive experience and a proactive approach, I aim to ensure we continue to innovate and provide consistent improvements to our services and deliver a positive impact on our community.

Elevate - fast internet (connectivity)

Column

As your representative at Elevate, a wholly owned subsidiary under DMEA, my goal is to advocate for policies to provide fast, reliable internet service that meets all your needs. Someday, speedtests will no longer be a thing (just like constant voltage checks are no longer necessary on the DMEA side)

Fiber was first brought to the western slope and to the benefit the DMEA membership in 1999 on a joint cooperative project from Albuquerque to Grand Junction (through Montrose and Delta Counties). It was utilized first for electric system operations and then rolled out to the DMEA membership starting in 2014 with a fiber to the home business called Elevate.

Efforts continue to include all rural areas currently served with electric. Much of the fiber installed in our two counties made possible by amazing competitive grant opportunities that were secured by the competent and hardworking employees of DMEA and Elevate.

I see broadening access to digital opportunities, promoting digital literacy, and working collaboratively with the community to address its evolving needs. Things we can't even yet imagine will be realizable here in our two counties with the fiber broadband capabilities that our progressive membership has supported and your coop has invested in.

Telemedicine through our local Healthcare providers such as Delta Health and Montrose Regional Health can be optimized using the fiber networks already installed.

Virtual educational opportunities coupled with the Montrose and Delta School Districts as well as Colorado Mesa University/CMU Tech (Montrose campus) and Technical college of the Rockies, are just some of the future things that can and will happen with the infrastructure that has been established in our communities.
